On Thursday, May 24th, I am going to the rainforest in Puerto Rico with Earthwatch Institute to assist in a science research project. I will be in Puerto Rico for 11 days... returning on Sunday, June 3rd.
While in Puerto Rico, I will be working side-by-side with scientists who are researching environmentally friendly ways to harvest timber from the rainforest. In addition, we will be monitoring populations of local frogs. Cool, huh?
Check back here for more information.

I am excited to follow your trip! Good luck and safe travels Mr. Lafond.
Can you post a picture of the frogs you will studying?
thanks
There are many great pictures of the coqui frogs in the "Scientific Case Study" found in the Resources section on the right. I hope to post pictures of my own soon.
Mr. Lafond
Cool! The Diggerydoo (or however you spell it) playing was really good. That tiny frog is awesome. Make sure you post lots of pictures of the rainforest.

Best of luck on your trip Mr. Lafond. Could you show us a map of where you will be while in Puerto rico?
Are you only going to be studying frogs in the rainforests, or are you studying other species too?
This is really cool that you get to take a trip to Puerto Rico! Be sure to take many pictures of anything that is the least bit interesting (and bring them back to show us!)
Will you be in the Rainforest for your entire expedition. Will you be camping in the Rainforest or will you be staying in a nearby hotel?
Can you explain what types of techniques you will be trying? And post a picture of them!
Are the other scientists going to be teachers too?

Thanks for your comments Kiwis! I am glad you were able to find the blog.
I hope to explain more about the expedition in class before I go. If I don't cover everything, you will be reading and seeing about it as it is happening.
I will be working with another teacher. Her name is Ms. Matheson and you can find her blog underneath the Resources section on the right. She is a 4th grade teacher from Arizona.
We will mostly be learning about experimental ways of cutting down trees with the least impact of local animals. We'll be monitoring the local coqui (frogs) population as an indicator of how damaging the timber harvesting (cutting) practices are.
More to come later...
Will you post our homework on here while you are away? I hope you have an awesome trip!
